The communique states that this man, Captain Friedric Guggenberger, was imprisoned recently when a. United States Navy patrol bomber sank his U-boat off the Brazilian coast. Five other Germans were also taken prisoner. Guggenberger kept his submarine on the surface and tried to fight the aircraft, instead of submerging, but his vessel was sunk in the first attack.
