A story about the Home Guard -told by A. G. Street, the English farmer and author, in a 8.8. C. broadcast. An old shepherd, a member of the Home Guard in Street’s native Wiltshire, was up all one night at the time of the expected invasion attempt. When the news came through that he could knock off, he said to Street: “Bain’t ’em coming, sir?” “Not this time,” was the reply’ “Ah,” the old fellow said, “just what I thought. There bain’t no dependence to be put on those Germans. Here I’ve been up all night hanging about for nuthin’.”
