At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board yesterday, Mr David Allan was appointed chairman. News has been received that SubLieutenant J. F. Pointon, of Masterton, has been promoted to the position of Commanding Officer on his ship, which is engaged in Allied operations. The death occurred on Wednesday of Mr Benjamin G. H. Burn, a Wellington resident of long standing, and for 'well over half a century identified with the growth and progress of Karori. Mr Burn was formerly Mayor of Karori and later a member of the Wellington City Council. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital on Tuesday of Mr William Thomas Perkins, of 85 Lincoln Road. Masterton. The late Mr Perkins, who was a single man, was born, in Essex, England, 77 years ago. He had been in bad health for the past two years. Formerly, he was employed as a cook on Wairarapa sheep stations. The funeral which was a private one, took place in Wellington. The funeral of the late Mrs G. Thompson took place in Masterton on Wednesday afternoon. There was a representative attendance of mourners. The Rev. David McNeur officiated. Wreaths were sent by the Masterton Park staff and the Wairarapa Power Board, besides others from private sympathisers. Messrs W. Flaws, W. Harrington, F. Knowles, G. Street, T. A, Harker and W. D. Thompson acted as pall-bearers.
