FREE DANES
EXPRESSION OF BRITISH SYMPATHY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 8. Britain has sent to the Free Danes an expression of her sympathy with the recent stand of the King and people of Denmark against the Germans. The message was in reply to a telegram to Mr Churchill from the Danish Council thanking him on behalf of all Danes for "your great-work in this gigantic struggle, which is also ours, and for the understanding and trust your people have shown in Danish people during more than three long years of German occupation,” and assuring him that the “Danes now more than ever will be animated by the keenest desire to further the cause of the United Nations.”
The Foreign Secretary, Mr Eden, replying on behalf of Mr Churchill, referred to the courageous stand taken by King Christian and the Danish people against the barbarous invader, and said that “action such as this, which levies a new toll of the German war potential, is a valuable contribution to the general war effort of 'which you can justifiably be proud.”
