BICYCLE TIRES & TUBES
RATIONING COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL MEETING. REPORT OF ACTIVITIES. The annual meeting of the Masterton Bicycle Tire awl Tube Rationing Committee was held last night. The chairman, Mr W. R. Nicol, presided. Mr Geo. Baer, cycle dealers’ representative, was also present. i A full report of the committee’s activities was presented by the honorary secretary, Mr Robert C. Jordan. The report showed that between 4000 and 5000 applications for tires and tubes had been dealt with. The issue of 3796 tires and 2651 tubes 'was approved in the Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Featherston and Marlinborough area. Originally only 75 tires and tubes were allocated, which was soon found to be totally inadequate. Representations to the Rubber Controller for additional supplies resulted in a gradual increase in allocations from time to time, which enabled the committee to cope with urgent cases. Periodical visits were paid to the -various districts by the chairman and secretary, which ensured harmonious working for all concerned. Mi’ Geo. Barr spoke of the fairness that had been given to dealers and of the splendid work done by the chairman and secretary. The chairman in reply thanked Mr Barr for his kindly references to himself and the secretary, who had been of great assistance not only to himself but to all concerned.
