FEATHERSTON
POLITICAL ADDRESS NATIONAL PARTY CANDIDATE. The Town Hall, Featherston, was filled to capacity on Monday night to hear the National Party candidate for the Wairarapa seat, Mr J. J. Maher, deliver a spirited address. The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, presided. Mr Maher gave an instance of what he said was the domination of the Government by outside interests, when Mr Scrimgeour was reinstated as Controller of Commercial Broadcasting. Mr Maher asked his audience how was the representation of New Zealand at Washington being conducted when Messrs Fraser, Nash and Langstone were squabbling over the spoils of office.
Taxation, rehabilitation and the decentralisation of industries were dealt with by Mr Maher, who gave emphasis to the continuance of Social Security benefits, which had been developed in New Zealand since they were first introduced by a Liberal Government. The increased cost of living, portion of which was due, he said, to muddlement by incompetent business methods in the Internal Marketing Department, was referred to. Mr Maher stated that the control exerted over’ the individual was a sorry trend. Several questions, including one re-
garding the completion of the Rimutaka Tunnel, which Mr Maher favoured, were answered. MINIATURE RIFLES COMPETITION SCORES. (“Times-Age” Special.)
