MILK IN SCHOOLS - (To the Editor) Sir, —In your issue of September 7, in the Central School report, there was a letter to, and a reply from, the Minister of Health re the milk in schools scheme. The reply is very indefinite and practically means nothing. In the first place, by the time the building and plant are erected it will probably be 12 months to two years, or quite likely the scheme will be shelved and not come into operation until after the war. Now then, firstly, are the children of the Wairarapa to be deprived of the milk for this period? This seems to be the only large district (approximately 4.000 children) so deprived. Secondly, is the Minister prepared to find a scheme to operate in the meantime? Thirdly, the Wairarapa children have been without milk for the last two seasons, although, according to the report, there is a firm willing to supply, and it has always done so quite satisfactorily. Trusting something will be done to bridge this gap.—l am, etc., PARENT. Masterton, September 8.
