WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT MAURICEVILLE. (“Times-Age" Special.) Mrs J. Baine presided at the monthly meeting of the Mauriceville District Women’s Institute, held at the home of Mrs F. Pain on Tuesday. The motto, “To have a friend is to be a friend,” was given by Mrs G. Nielsen. It was decided to send a donation of 10s 6d to theJLeper Fund. Mrs Wilson gave an interesting and comprehensive report on the conference held at Gisborne. It was decided that in future the Bring and Buy stall should be held every three months, instead of monthly as in the past. A visitor, Mrs Best, gave an interesting talk on the evacuation of Singapore, in which she took part, also of her travels to Colombo and East Africa. The competitions resulted as follow: —Best bloom: Mrs F. Pain, 1; Mrs Wilson, 2; Mrs G. Nielsen and Mrs Broadbent (equal), 3. Article from old felt: Mrs Baine, 1; Miss J. Larsen, 2. The best six months’ programme was won by Mrs Baine with Miss J. Larsen second. ' • The hostesses were Mesdames Wilson and F. Pain.
