LABOUR PARTY REMITS

COMMENT BY INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. Addressing a well-attended meeting at Mauriceville West last evening, Captain Justin Power, Independent candidate for the Masterton seat, commented on the type of remits which had been passed at the Easter conferences of the Labour Party as instructions to the Labour Government. The following samples were quoted by Captain IPower: Remit 82—1937 Conference: “When making appointments to boards and commissions, to confer with the Labour member for the district or other competent Labour representative. Note:— The conference is aware that this is generally done, but sometimes overlooked.” • Remit 64—1938 Conference: “That all lending corporations and stock and station agents operating within the Dominion be nationalised.” Remit 73: “That this conference (a) declares in favour of equal wages for all; (b) all candidates to give prominence to our objective and urges the Government to expedite in every way its attainment.” Captain Power stated that these annual conferences'Tfl” r ’ys terminated with the singing of the “Red Flag.”
