MORE RAIN
WAIRARAPA DISTRICT DRENCHED LOCAL FLOODING REPORTED. OVER TWO INCHES RECORDED. Torrential rain yesterday afternoon and last night resulted in further flooding in the Wairarapa district. In Masterton the storm water channels failed to cope with the rush of water, and pavements were . partially flooded. Creeks around the town are in high flood. For the twenty-four hours ended at 9 a.m. today, 2.3 inches of rainfall were recorded at Waingawa, and 2.16 inches at Solway. The Wangaehu Road is again blocked by a slip. The slip'which blocked the road at the week-end about 8 miles out was cleared yesterday, but a further slip occurred in the same locality last night. The Wangaehu River is rising fast, and there is a possibility of the road being inundated if the rain continues. There is about two feet of water over the road at Homewood. The Black Rock road is blocked by a slip. The Ruamahanga River is in flood, but has not reached an unduly high level.
Throughout the district there has been a high mortality among lambs. Many farmers have lost heavily. In the Rangitumau district one farmer had several stud lambs drowned.
