ALLIED PROGRESS IN DIFFICULT • COUNTRY. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. An Algiers communique says the Eighth Army has captured San Stefano and that prisoners taken so far number 3,000. An Algiers radio statement, which apparently refers to a communioue, says: “Our troops continued their advance slowly in all sectors yesterday, despite various demolitions.' The mountainous nature of the country is of the greatest assistance to the enemy defences, particularly on the centre of the front. A considerable number of prisoners were again captured.
