ACCORDING TO BERLIN

BRITISH LANDING ATTEMPT REPELLED. ON ISLAND OFF NORTH COAST OF FRANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. “British vessels on Friday night attempted to land commandos on Ushant Island, off the north coast of France, but abandoned the operation when fired on by German naval patrols,” says me Berlin radio. “One naval craft reached the beach, but made off, leaving steel helmets, ammunition and grenades on the beach. The enemy caused no damage, and there is no evidence that any enemy force went inland.”
