HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. RACE FROM WAIOURU. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held its first rqce of the old bird season at the week-end from Waiouru, an airline'distance of 104 miles. Owing to a snowstorm, the birds were not liberated on Saturday as ' scheduled, but were held over until Sunday morning. Heavy rain made the flying times very slew . A special prize to the winner was presented by Mr R. Stewart, Senr. The following were the first six placings: —Grant and Forrester’s “Red Star,” 471 yards per minute, 1; Grant and Forrester’s “Kindergarten,” 470 yards per minute, 2; L. Wickens’s “Black Knight,” 447 yards per minute, 3; N. Gardiner’s “Importation,” 442 yards per’ minute, 4; J. Mayes’s “The Champ,” 438 yards per minute, 5. R. Stewart and Son’s “Imperial,” 437 yards per minute, 6. Sixty-four birds competed in this week’s race. The race next week will be from Taumarunui, an airline distance of 145 miles.
