WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MANAIA COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall yesterday afternoon, when Mrs Munn presided. An interesting report on the Women’s Institute conference held at Gisborne recently was given by Mrs G. Scrivener. Mesdames Catton and Munn were appointed delegates to attend the council meeting at Carterton. Mrs Munn gave a demonstratinn on aprons trimmed with patch-work. They were greatly admired and she was accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom, Mrs Carr 1, Mrs S. Munn 2, Mrs Palmer 3. Small bloom, Mrs S. Allen 1, Mrs Scrivener 2, Mrs Webber 3. Collection of spring flowers, Mrs Scrivener 1, Mrs S. Munn 2, Mrs Catton 3. Scones: Mrs Woollett 1, Mrs S. Allen 2, Mrs Tulloch 3. Sewing, Mrs Carr 1, Mrs Torrance 2, Mrs Henderson 3. Knitting, Mrs Kirk 1, Mrs Butter 2, Mrs Catton 3. The programme for October will be: Article, “something new from something old”; roll call, “your Christian names”; cooking, plain sponge sandwich; flowers, collection of spring bulbs. The hostesses will be Mesdames Leighton, Lepper, McErlick and D. Munn.
