The death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mrs A. R. Sclanders, formerly of Masterton, at the age of 57 years. The death is reported in a Press Association telegram from Invercargill of Mr James George Charles Baker, engineer to the Wallace County Council. Mr Baker was born in Invercargill in 1881. Miss Craven, who has been Waipukurau librarian for more than 20 years, has retired. Before relinquishing her duties Miss Craven was entertained by the library subscribers and presented with a wireless set and a cheque. Miss Craven was also met by the members of the borough council and given a presentation. Born in Wanganui in the historic Rutland Stockade 65 years ago, Mr William Joseph Piper died recently. On leaving school he joined the New Zealand Railways Department and spent the whole of his 40. years’ service with it in Wanganui. In recognition of his community service, Mr Piper was among the/residents of Wanganui who were honoured with a King George V Jubilee Medal in 1935.
