TURKISH ARMY
READY IF COMPELLED TO FIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 31. “In the 21 years of the new Turkey we have brought the army to a standard which is appreciated by friends and enemies alike,” declared the Prime Minister, Mr Saracoglu, in a speech at Smyrna. According to the German news agency, Mr. Saracoglu stated: “We are convinced that if one day we should be compelled to fight, victory would follow the Turkish colours and cover them with' glory.”
