FEARS OF INVASION
REASON FOR NAZI ACTION IN DENMARK SOME DANES STILL ESCAPING. RUNNING GERMAN BLOCKADE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, August 30. Fear by the Germans of an Allied invasion of Denmark is believed to have been a major factor in determining' the application of the severe measures against the Danes, says Reuter’s Stockholm correspondent. A German statement that the new measures are neecssary to protect the European coastline is the first admission of this. Small boats are still escaping from Denmark to Sweden in spite of a tightening of the German control over the 20 miles of strait separating Sweden and Denmark. Increasing numbers of German warships and planes are patrolling the channel and ramming, shelling and bombing boats attempting to escape. However, more than 500 Danes, mainly members of the army and navy, with some policemen and civilians, have so far reached Sweden. The Danes are escaping to Sweden in warships and small sailing ships, making a dash through the German blockade under cover of darkness. A small motor-boat with 60 officers and soldiers reached Hoganas last night. A modern mine-sweeper reached Trolleborg today, and a ferry boat from Denmark arived at Helsingoorg, but it carried no passengers. Tno Stockholm newspaper “Allehanda" says that the uniformed soldiers, and sailors from Denmark will probably be interned and the civilians left free. , Crown Prince Frederick of. Denmark and Princess Ingrid are reported to have been interned at their residence at Amalienborg.
