LAWES’ HOCKEY
MATCHES WITH WELLINGTON. LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES SELECTED. As a result of trial games played at Lansdowne last Saturday, the Wairarapa teams to play the Wellington representatives next Saturday have been selected. Several players who were chosen to take part in the trial games were unable to play for one reason or another, and as a result neither the A or B senior team will be as strong as otherwise it would have been. However, two well-balanced sides have been chosen, which should give a good account of themselves. The junior team should be fully representative. A notable feature of the senior trials was a fine display of forward play given by N. Lyster (Greytown) and M. Shouler (College). Unfortunately, both these youthful players are right wingers, and both could not be included in the A team. The teams are as follow: — Senior A (to play Wellington A at Wellington).—Forwards, D. Harding. C. Farrell, D. McCarty, E. McKenzie, N. Lyster; halves, R. Harding (captain). B. Woodley. E. Pura; backs. H. Harding. M. Ward; goal, M. Foster. Emergency forward, B. Parker. Senior B (to play Wellington B at Masterton). —Forwards, P. Jensen, L. Wilton, R. Stevens, M. McKenna (captain), M. Shouler; halves, G. Morice, V. Ward, J. Rutherford; backs, F. Jensen, R. Hopkins; goal, M. Strange. Emergencies for either team if necessary: Loraine Sugrue, D. George, J. McDonald, M. Heath. Juniors (to play Wellington at Masterton).—Forwards. G. Sayers, L. Parker. M. McCormack, R. Devery, D. Ranston; halves. J. Dickason. R. Stains (captain). A. Fairbrother; backs. E. Brogden, D. Fenemor: goal. N. Stains. Emergencies: M. Fly, D. Richards. Details in connection with the games will be published as soon as they are available.
