EARLY CONFERENCE
WESTERN ALLIES & RUSSIA ANTICIPATED IN LONDON. IMPORTANT POLITICAL ISSUES (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, August 29. A tliree-Power conference between Britain, the United States and Russia will be held shortly, probably in London, .says the “Sunday Dispatch’s” diplomatic correspondent. Negotiations which are at present progressing, if successful, will result in an early announcement of the meeting place. There is good ' reason for believing that London will be the choice. ItAs believed that a decision by Mr Churchill to postpone his broadcast tTI, Tuesday may be connected with an -announcement r f the fhre -Power wish to refe;: to the conference in his "informed circles in Washington are of opinion that a tripartite conference, if held in the near future, would be primarily political and not military, says the Washington correspondent of the. They explain that many political questions involving Russia are crowding to the fore, such as the administration of the liberated countries, and Russian intentions regarding boundaries and spheres of influence in eastern and south-east-ern Europe. The correspondent adds that should die Anglo-American armies open drives against Germany v?:. France and via the Balkans these political considerations; could rapidly come to a critical head unless an understanding had been reached in advance. It is believed, the correspondent adds, that Mr Churchill will select an historically symbolic site for his broadcast, which is expected to deal with the Quebec decisions and expand on ■he plans to crush international gangterism. British sources predict that Mr Churchill will be the “central figure in a dramatic public appearance while in the United States.” ON WAV TO LONDON MAISKY TALKS WITH PREMIER OF EGYPT. LONDON, August 29. A message from Cairo states that M. Maisky, the former Soviet Ambassador to Britain, who is now Vice-Commissar of Foreign Affairs, has had a cordial interview with the Egyptian Premier, Nahas Pasha. This is the first official contact between Russia and Egypt. M. Maisky dined with the British Minister in the Middle East, Mr R. G. Casey. The Commissar is proceeding to London.
