Mr and Mrs J. Irving and Miss Margaret Irving have returned to Masterton after having spent a holiday in Havelock North and Napier. Two officers of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who have returned to New Zealand are Brigadier W. G. Slovens, C.8.E., R.N.Z.A., in charge of administration, and Colonel L. F. Rudd, D. 5.0., military secretary.

The engagement is announced of Jean Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Gilliland, Perry Street, Masterton, to Malcolm Donald, eldest son of Mr and Mrs D. C. Stuart, “Komiri,” Rangitumau.

A delightful morning tea arranged by friends was held at Mrs V. Burridge’s residence, in Renall Street, Masterton, on Saturday in honour of Sister Nancy Brundell, who is on furlough from the Middle East. Those present included Mesdames Burridge, T. Walker, C. M. McKenzie, D. Groves, E. Holmwood and Nurse Kerins. Sister Brundell gave a very interesting talk on her experiences in Greece and also on her work in the Middle East.

The death occurred on Friday at a private hospital in Wellington of Mr Donald K. Leed, factory representative in New Zealand for the Morris Industries Exports, Ltd. The late Mr Leed was born in Cambridge, England,' in 1898. Mr Leed first came to New Zealand in 1935. and had been resident here since 1939. In 1942, with the consent of Lord Nuffield, head of the Morris organisation, Mr Leed was loaned to the office of the Factory Controller in this country in an honorary capacity to assist the manufacture of munitions of war.
