STATE THEATRE

"MOON AND SIXPENCE” Superb acting by both George Sanders and Herbert Marshall, make the “Moon and Sixpence,” which will be shown at the State Theatre tonight, a picture of outstanding entertainment. They have taken Somerset Maugham’s fine tale, and have sustained the strong romantic and dramatic flavour that made it one of this writer’s best. It tells of the career of a man who found life a restless affair, and for those who are a little on the sensitive side it cannot be recommended, as it is sometimes very stark in its telling. Briefly, it is the story of Charles Strickland. who. deserted a wife and children, starved in a Paris garret, wooed and left the wife of his friend, and finally ended up in Tahiti, where he went native and came to an unpleasant end. The picture will be shown for four nights. It has drawn packed houses in the cities.
