WEDDING

FRIEND—YATES. Japonica, camelias and cherry-blossom formed a pleasing background at St. Matthew's Church, Masterton. this afternoon, when Noela Mary Baker, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr H. Yates, of Bunny Street, Masterton, was married to Private Arthur Edward Friend. Second N.Z.E.F., second son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Friend. Bentley Street. The ceremony was performed by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, and Flight Sergeant T. Kirk-Burnnand presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle. Mr F. Ball, looked charming in a becoming gown of cream satin cut on Victorian lines and featuring a square neckline, long sleeves coming to a point over the wrists and buttons down the back. The gown fell to a graceful corded train while a tulle veil with a headdress of orchids was worn. The bride carried a full shower bouquet of freezias, cyclamen and maidenhair fem. The bridesmaids were Misses Ola Eddy (chief) and Pat. O’Callaghan, who were attired in pretty frocks of blue georgette with rucked tops and long waistlines and featured full skirts and puffed sleeves. In their hair they wore blooms of cyclamen and carried bouquets of cyclamen and blue irises. The duties of best man and groomsman were carried out by Trooper Gordon Dull. Second N.Z.E.F. and Trooper Roy Richards, Second N.Z.E.F., respectively. The ushers at the church were Messrs Cliff Faulknor and Arthur Welply. At the reception held at the Masonic. Hall a number of guests were received by Mesdames Yates and Friend. The former wore a navy ensemble edged with white, a shoulder spray of hyacinths and cyclamen, and a navy hat. Mrs Friend was attired in a black costume with a black hat and a shoulder spray of golden freezias, violets and cyclamen. When the bride and bridegroom left for the North the bride travelled in a chrysanthemum red ensemble trimmed with squirrel fur and wore a brown fur hat and matching accessories.
