OFFENSIVE AT SIX POINTS

FROM FINLAND TO SEA OF AZOV. RED AIR FORCE HAMMERING GERMANS. (Received This Cay, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, August 20. Reuter points out that, it' the German statements about the various new Russian offensives are taken at their full value, then the Russians are waging an offensive at six points along the 1000-mile front, from Finland to the Sea of Azov. The points which the Germans have named are:—Firstly, the Louhi sector, which is on the Finnish front and part of the Murmansk front; secondly. Staraya Russa which the Russians have not yet confirmed: thirdly, the SmolenskEriansk front: fourthly, the Briansk front itself; fifthly, the Kharkov front, and sixthly, the Mius front, where Berlin for several days has dwelt on "hard defensive battles.” west of Rostov, of which Moscow has thus far not given any indication. Correspondents agree that the air fighting on the Russian front has reached an unprecedented scale. Relays of Red Air Force planes hammer German reinforcements as they move up to the front. The Russian airmen are turning the roads behind the . German lines into streams of blazing lorries, cars and tanks. The Luftwaffe is switching its forces from one sector to another, in an attempt to achieve local air superiority.
