The Minister of Manpower, Mr McLagan, has served notice on the Wellington City Council, prohibiting the employment of women for manual labour in connection with the maintenance and repair of tramway tracks. Women had. commenced such work this week. The Minister has taken this step under the authority of the Industrial Manpower Emergency ■ Regulations, which contain a clause providing that the Minister may require employers to obtain the consent of a district manpower officer before engaging workers for any specified industry.
