CARTERTON
YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB SUCCESSFUL DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton branch of the Young Farmers’ Club held a dance in the Parkvale Hall last evening. The gathering was an outstanding success and was attended by many visitors from Masterton, Greytown and Carterton. Excellent music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra and much appreciated extras were played by Miss Mary Herrick and Mr W. Riddell.
A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Alma Franks and Mr R. Goodin. A lucky spot waltz went to Mrs T. Rayner and Mr Bruce Ross. The M.Cs. were Messrs V. J. Ashton and J. Rose.
Mr W. B. Campin, Junr., the club’s chairman, thanked the public for their patronage and all those who helped to make the gathering such a success. Special reference was made to Mr E. T. Bliss and the ladies who helped at the supper. Get on the Roll. The names of a large number of electors are being placed on the Carterton supplementary general election rcll, which will close shortly. Any person over the age of 21 years whose name does not appear on the main roll should register at once. Registration is compulsory. School Football. The Wairarapa Primary schools football team will leave tomorrow for Wel- ( lington to take part in the annual I school tournament. Personal Items. I Mr Fred Jackson, who was tin inmate of the Masterton Hospital for some considerable time and underwent ai operation, is slowly improving. Mr J. J. Hadley, who had been confined to his home for some time, is now able to get about again. Mr W. B. Allen, who is now resident of Palmerston North, and who for manj' years was a successful Romney Marsh sheep breeder in Carterton, is celebrating his 96th birthday today. The death occurred at Auckland yesterday of - Mrs Lucy Lydia Campin, widow of Mr William Benjamin Campin, who resided in Carterton many yc s ago, and who will be remembere. .uy old residents in Carterton as a cabinetmaker, undertaker and builder. She I was born in England and with her husi band came to New Zealand in the early eighties. Her husband predeceased her 53 years ago. For many years she had resided with her daughter, Mrs J. McPartland, of Putamahoe, Auckland. She leaves a grown-up family—Mr W. B. Campin (Waihakeke), Mesdames Rayner (Whakatane), J. McPortlan and Taylor (Putamahoe, Auckland), Kayes and McDonnell (Otaua, Auckland) and IMarris CHawera). The funeral will itake place privately at the Clareville Cemetery on Saturday. Election Address. Mr G. H. Mackley, National- candidate for the Masterton seat, will address the electors in the Belvedere schoolroom on Friday night, commencing at 8 o’clock. REGENT THEATRE TWO SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS. Two special attractions will be shown tonight. “Dr. Broadway" is a thrilling drama featuring Macdonald Carey and Joan Phillips, and “What’s Cookin’?” an outstanding comedydrama starring Jane Frazee, Gloria Jean and Robert Page.
