SHORTENING OF WAR

“RED STAR” ON SECOND FRONT NEED OF DIVERTING GERMAN DIVISIONS. FROM RUSSIA TO WEST. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, August 18. Another Soviet demand for the opening of a second front by the Allies is made by the Army newspaper “Red Star.” Commenting on the Quebec conference, the paper said: "The disposition of German reserves indicates that the Germans do not expect large'scale and serious Allied operations in the near future. The main German efforts are concentrated against the Red Army. We have repeatedly pointed out that by a second front we mean action which would divert 50 to 60 German divisions from the Russian front. This is the only action which would considerably shorten the war.”
