CARTERTON
AN EXCELLENT RECITAL
BY MISS HIRST’S PUPILS.
(“Times-Age” Special.)
'The King’s Theatre, Carterton, was packed with a most appreciative audience when Miss Beulah Hirst, M.R.A.D., presented her dancing and elocutionary pupils in their first recital. The programme was most entertaining and the performance of the ballets, duos, solos, etc., reflected great credit on Miss Hirst and her pupils giving evidence of excellent training. The costumes were very pretty and greatb' enhanced the charming scenes. Encores were repeatedly demanded. On the programme also were elocutionary items and Miss Hirst added still further variation by her songs. Miss Hirst has a splendid voice which is well known to Wairarapa audiences. Her songs “Villanelle” and “The Star” were very warmly received. The best item was a Tango byMiss Hirst, who was attired in a beautiful frock of black and gold taffeta, with black lace mantilla. Every item on the programme was skilfully performed.
At the conclusion of the performance Miss Hirst thanked the audience for the splendid reception given to her pupils, many of whom were appearing for the first time after very little tuition. She especially thanked the mothers and all helpers. The mothers of the Carterton pupils presented Miss Hirst with a beautiful bouquet and several shoulder sprays were presented by pupils. Miss Hirst handed a gift to each child.
The pupils taking part were: P. Groves, S. Fenwick, M. Dryden, L. Campbell, B. Dryden, J. Clark, N. Archer, B. Rofe, J. Fenwick, R. Armstrong, M. Huntly, L. Bruce, A. Dyer, E. Keisenberg. J. McLaren, P. Stubbs, B. Dryden, J. Berney, S. Peers, M. Hoar, B. Evans, J. Cain, A. Wellwood, M. Wellwood, J. Elliot, A. Elliot, M. McWhirter, H. McWhirter, P. Bouzaid, L. Little, R. Fisher, L. Fisher, J. Fisher/ P. Jansen, B. James, P. Stevens, N. Gallon and M. Smith. It was certainly an entertainment which made a popular appeal and showed Miss Hirst as a skilful instructor. The residents' of Carterton are eagerly looking forward to another performance by these clever pupils. ;
P. and A. Society’s Building.
The work of renovating and remodelling the P. and A. Society’s offices which were badly damaged by last year's heavy earthquake, is nearing completion. The outside of the building has been done in a chrome colour and picked out in green' shades, and bears the words “Wairarapa P. and A. Building.” The structure is a decided credit to the contractors and the P. and A. Society.
The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Society wil be held at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday..
The Dairy Industry.
The supply of milk to the various cheese factories is showing a rapid increase and further assistants are being added to the staffs. Large numbers of bobby calves are being taken from dairy farms to the works. Personal. ‘The engagement is announced of Betty Alice, second 1 daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Adlam, Kairanga, to Alan Benjamin, youngest son of Mr and Mrs B. Sewell, Seddon Street, Carterton. A Heavy Frost. A heavy frost this morning caused the freezing of water pipes in many parts of the borough. REGENT THEATRE “FLORIAN.” Tonight’s programme is headed by the brilliant drama, “Florian,” in which the leading roles are taken by Robert Young and Helen Gilbert.
