MATAHIWI
A HAPPY GATHERING ENJOYABLE MUSICAL PROGRAMME. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Matahiwi School was lecently the scene of a very happy gathering arranged by the ladies of the district. The school children, well trained by Mrs Martin and Miss Pedersen, contributed items consisting of singing, verse-speaking, trios and duets, and folk dancing, all of which were excellently rendered. Two girls gave a dialogue and two small boys recited. The ladies’ choir sang a number of wellknown songs and Mrs Martin and Mrs Clarke sang two duets. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Russell Smith and Mrs Martin. Mrs Amundsen, Miss Amundsen and Mrs Clarke staged a humorous play. A dainty home-made supper was served, followed by a dance.
Opportunity was taken to welcome home Private Ken Carswell from the Middle East,
Mr Smith thanked Mrs Martin and Mr Temple for the gift of a Red Cross box. Prizes were won by Mrs Kingston (cake). Mrs L. Amundsen (portrait), and Mrs H. Amundsen.
