WAR PRISONERS
TRANSFERS FROM ITALY TO GERMANY' BRITISH WARNING RECALLED. BADOGLIO GOVERNMENT HELD RESPONSIBLE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) RUGBY, August 16. It is understood that' the Swiss Government, at Britain’s request, is investigating reports that large numbers of British war prisoners have already been transferred from Italy to Germany. These reports indicate that transfers from Italy to German prison camps have been going on for some time and have been accelerated since the fall of Mussolini.
When the reports reached London, Britain asked the Swiss Government to make inquiries and these are being speeded up. It will be recalled that the Badoglio Government had already been warned that it would be held responsible for any transfer of British war prisoners to Germany.
