MINISTERIAL VISIT
NO NOTIFICATION TO COLLEGE BOARD. “AN ACT OF DISCOURTESY” Referring to a report in last Saturday’s issue of the “Times-Age” that the Minister of Education, Mr Mason, had inspected earthquake damage restoration work at Wairarapa College while on a short visit to Masterton, a member of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors. Mr J. D. O’Connor, remarked at last night’s board meeting that he had not seen in the report any mention of the chairman of the board having been present. Mr A. Owen Jones (chairman) said the only intimation he had received of the visit was the report he had read in the paper last Saturday night. The Member for Masterton, Mr J. Robertson, had subsequently told him that the visit was unofficial and that he had been unsuccessful in contacting him. Mr O’Connor said whether the visit was official or not it was only common courtesy that the secretary of the board should have been advised of the visit. What had taken place, he said, was an act of discourtesy.
Mr Jones said he felt sure that next time the board would be notified.
