Lecture on Jerusalem

At the Masonic Hall. Miss Waterston gave a lantern slide lecture on modern Jerusalem, which was much appreciated. Pictures of ancient Jerusalem were contrasted with the new Jerusalem built up outside the old city walls in the last 50 years. The prophet, Jeremiah. foretold in 600 B.C. that the city would be built up from the Tower of Hananeel to the Jaffa Gate and thence to the hill of Gareb. from there onto Goath and the valley of dead bodies past the ash heaps along the brook Kedron and back to the Horsegate. This is the very area that is modern Jerusalem today with its beautiful public buildings, Y.M.C.A.. shops and hotels. The lecture closed with pictures of the Garden Tomb, identified as the one in which Christ lay for three days. The lecture next Thursday is entitled •‘Envious Eyes on Palestine—its Future.”
