NORTH v SOUTH ISLAND. A CLOSE GAME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, This Day. The 35th annual trial of Rugby strength between the North Island and the South Island, was held in a brilliant setting at Athletic Park, Wellington, on Saturday afternoon, when upward of 14,000 spectators were thrilled by a fast and spectacular game, which saw victory eventually go to the South. Island by a margin of one point, 17-16. Other representative games played on Saturday resulted: Manawatu 14, Wellington 5. Canterbury 20, Buller 10. South Taranaki 11, Wanganui 3. WAIRARAPA SEASON NEARING ITS END. PROBABLES BEAT POSSIBLES. At Carterton on Saturday afternoon the Possibles-Probables football match resulted in a win for the Probables team by 15 points to 11. In a third grade A match Old Boys scored an easy win over Carterton by 13 points to nil. Saturday’s matches brought the season to a close so far as the Wairarapa is concerned, but there will be senior and third grade representative matches played against the Bush Union at Fahiatua next Saturday.
