WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS (“Tlmes-A.ge” Special.) The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently, Mrs Harman presiding. Final arrangements were made in connection with the annual birthday party to be held in September.

Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Seymour and Miss Hansen, who also packed the parcels for soldiers overseas.

The competition winners were as follow: Six rock cakes, Mrs Wallis 1, Mrs Kitchen 2; best bloom, Mrs R. Houlbrooke. Wandering shilling, Mrs Wallis. ■

Soldiers Welcomed. A very enjoyable welcome home dance was held in the local hall on Tuesday, having been organised by the Patriotic Committee to welcome Sapper Jack Trask, who has been in the Middle East for three years. There were also three other returned men present, one being from Dannevirke, another from Pongaroa and the other from Hawera. After supper Mr Raleigh welcomed Sapper Trask home to the district and said how pleased everyone was to see him again as he was the first soldier to be farewelled from Tiraumea. The other three soldiers were also welcomed and Mi’ Raleigh presented all four men with small gifts. Sapper Trask suitably replied. He especially mentioned how thankful the soldiers were to the Women’s Division for the parcels forwarded to them. He said that he hoped the division would continue the good work. Private Harold spoke on behalf of visiting soldiers. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs G. Houlbrooke, Miss Britland, Messrs Harman and Barker. Mr G. Houlbrooke was M.C. Personal Items. Mrs Gray and Private Dick Gray, of. Hawera, are guests of Mrs Olsen, Haunui. Miss D. Hart, Pahiatua, has been visiting her parents. Mrs Jewitt is staying with her daughter, Mrs Cox, Marima.
