AMERICAN RAID

ON THE KURILE ISLANDS

MANY HITS IN TARGET AREA TWO BOMBERS MISSING. FIVE ENEMY FIGHTERS PROBABLY DESTROYED. LONDON, August 12. Washington reports that nine Liberator bombers raided -Japanese installations in the Kurile Island. Many hits were scored in the target area.

About 40 fighters intercepted the planes. Five of the fighters were probably destroyed and others were damaged. Two bombers are missing. The Kuriles were raided by Liberators three weeks ago.
