STOCK MARKET

SALE AT ADDINGTON. RISE IN FAT SHEEP VALUES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 11. Both the fat cattle and fat sheep sections at Addington today were represented by good quality and prices showed a rise on last week's values. Wintry conditions affected the yarding of store sheep and, except for some good lines of ewes, bidding was very dragging. In all other sections recent prices were maintained. Fat sheep prices in the early stages showed an advance of up to 2s a head on all classes, but with late arrivals swelling the entry there was: a marked slackening off in the demand, and the increase mentioned was lost. The highest price for wethers was 53s lOd for a pen of nine two-tooths.

Porkers were competed for at full schedule rates. Choppers also sold well, but not up to to the level of the national market last week. The entry of baconers was insufficient for the demand. The average preie per lb. was Slid to 9d.

VALUES AT MASTERTON CATTLE IN DEMAND. The Wairarapa Stock and Station Agents' Association report on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday as follows: —We again had a good yarding of all classes of sheep, and station and dairy cattle, and although the attendance was not large, prices were well up to those of last week, while ewes r.w.r. sold at values much better than those ruling of late. The fat sheep yarded were of much better quality, and tc our mind they also showed an improvement. Cattle were in demand but in the dairy section, prices were disappointing, there being practically no demand for cows either close to profit or late calvers. A good clearancce was effected under the hammer, and the following will indicate values: —Heavy fat ewes, 28s, 29s to 29s 6d; medium do., 245, 25s Gd to 26s 3d; light do.. 18s to 19s: heavy fat wethers, 375, 37s 9d to 38s 6d; medium do., 33s to 345; light unfinished wethers, 275, 27s 6d to 28s 9d ; fat hoggets, 20s, 21s to 21s lid; 2-th. wethers, 225, 235, 23s 7d to 23s lOd; empty 2-th. ewes. 19s 4d: 2-th. ewes, r.w.
