RUBBER & SISAL
PLANTED BY THE GERMANS.
SOURCE OF ALLIED SUPPLY.
A report recently reached Great Britain that plantations of rubber and sisal started some years ago by the Germans in Tanganyika have been rediscovered and arc being cleared as a potential source of supply to the Allies 'for these essential raw materials. The volume of the trade in both commodities has increased tremendously during the past few decades. For the former special facilities and storages were provided by the Port of London Authority, and it was a common sight to see the bright bales of sisal shimmering in the sunshine as they were craned from the ships in the lower docks. Every alternative source of supply for rubber and sisal is invaluable today.
