RED CROSS SOCIETY
COUNTRY DISTRICTS BRANCH.
MEETING IN MASTERTON YESTERDAY. The monthly meeting of the Country Districts Red Cross branch was held yesterday at the Country Women's Club. Mrs A. C. Gawith was in the chair.
Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs T. A. Barrer and Miss Spellman in their illness.
It was stated that papier mache workers were urgently needed. Those interested are asked to ring either the secretary (Miss E. Rutherford (telephone 1639) or Mrs Kemble Welch (telephone 1618). Large supplies of splints, bowls of all sizes, bed boots and trays will be welcomed by medical officers in the Pacific Islands for military hospitals and rest homes. A letter received recently by the headquarters from a doctor paid a tribute to the papier mache workers, stating that the articles sent were just what he required. Mrs de Castro, convenor of the sewing group, reported that this month the group had forwarded 136 garments to the centre.
Mrs W. James stated that the country districts had now formed a V.A. detachment with Mrs Neville Parsonson as lady superintendent. Thanks were extended to Mrs Guy Groves for a gift of children’s clothing and to Mrs Peter Andrew for gifts of eggs for soldier patients in hospital.
