TWO CORVETTES

PRESENTED' BY BRITAIN TO NEW ZEALAND SPECIALLY FITTED FOR WAR IN PACIFIC. PRIME MINISTER’S GRATEFUL ACKNOWLEDGMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The gift by the United' Kingdom Government of two corvettes to New Zealand was announced by the Prime Minister today. “This offer, which was conveyed to me in a personal message from Mr Churchill,” Mr Fraser said, “has been warmly accepted as a mark of the goodwill and interest of the United Kingdom towards this Dominion. “These two vessels, which are specially fitted for operations in the Pacific will be of the greatest value,” he added, “to the Royal New Zealand Navy, and I would like to take this opportunity of expressing the deepest appreciation and thanks of the Government and people of New Zealand for this further example of the warm-hearted assistance which the United Kingdom Government has at all times extended to the Dominion.” Mr Fraser said the vessels were larger and superior in speed to the Moa, which, with her sister ship, the Kiwi, had achieved notable success against the Japanese in the Solomons.
