Mrs F. W. Heaven, South Road, has received official advice that her son, Trooper Jack Heaven, of the Middle East Forces, will be invalided home as soon as possible. The engagement is announced of Alice Steele, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. S. Dick, of Ngaio, to Gordon George, only son of Mrs and the late Mr G. E. Reynolds, ‘’Mayfield,” East Taratahi. The death has occurred of Mr James Anderson Kerr, of Ruataniwha, Central Hawke’s Bay, at the age of 79 years. Mr Kerr, who had successfully farmed at Ruataniwha for many years, was the last surviving foundation member of the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board.
The Bishop of Riverina, the Rt. Rev. R. C. Haise, has been appointed Archbishop of Brisbane, in succession to Dr. T. W. Wang, now Bishop of Bath and Wells, England, a Brisbane cablegram states. Archbishop Haise, who is 62, had been Bishop of Riverina since 1925.
