STATE THEATRE

“FALCON’S BROTHER.”

‘'Falcon’s Brother” and ‘'Art of Self Defence,” will be finally shown tonight.

“VIGIL IN THE NIGHT.”

The programme tomorrow night will bo headed by that stark, heartwrenching drama that spares no emotion in its forthright revealing honesty, “Vigil in the Night.” The author is the famous A. J. Cronin, who has written several sensational novels which have been brought to the screen, and it is considered to be his best story. It is a glowing tribute to the devoted and loyal women in white, and tells a most interesting story in a dramatic man> ner. Here is entertainment that reveals the truth about nurses and hospitals as honestly as “The Citadel” presented the story of doctors and medicine. It is in every sense an exciting screen experience and presents Carole Lombard in a role which is vital and compelling. Brian Aherne as the surgeon and Anne Shirley as a probationer are no less outstanding, and they head a supporting cast which includes Julien Mitchell, Brenda Forbes and Robert Coote. Aherne brings a quiet, dignified force to his role of the surgeon who is fighting for better conditions for both patients and staff in an out-dated hospital where its humanitarian work is handicapped by political indifference. Anne Shirley runs the gamut from frivolity to hysteria as the nurse who fails in her duties because her character lacks the sturdy qualities demanded by her profession.
