FIGHTING FRENCH
QUESTION OF RECOGNITION OF COMMITTEE. MENTIONED IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 4. The Foreign Minister, Mr Anthony Eden, was asked by Mr Boothby (Conservative) whether, in view of the agreement reached between Generals de Gaulle and Giraud, the Government would accord de facto recognition to the French National Committee of Liberation. Mr Eden replied that he welcomed the arrangement as one which would make a still further contribution to French unity and to the concentration of French effort on the war. On the question of recognition he could not say any more at present. On Mr Boothby pointing out that recognition at the earliest possible moment would be very welcome to large numbers of people, Mr Eden suggested that it would be desirable to try to do that together with all other Allied Powers.
