POTATO PRICES
INCREASES AUTHORISED

WELLINGTON, This Day. The seasonal changes in prices to be received by growers for potatoes are set out in an amendment to price order No. 127, gazetted today. These changes are operative from August 9 and represent an increase of ten shillings per ton, compared with last month’s prices. The maximum growers’ prices provided in the price order arc: —Grown in South Island: Suttons Supreme and King Edward, £9 5s per ton; any other variety, £8 15s per ton. Grown in North Island: Potatoes other than “tagged,” £ll 5s per ton; “tagged’’ potatoes, a maximum of 10s per ton additional.
These prices will apply from August 9 to 31, both days inclusive, and, pending issue of any further amending price order on August 31, the prices will operate for potatoes sold for delivery in September, October and November.
Retail prices are also subject to seasonal change at this time, in terms of the original price order. Maximum retail prices now are: —Provincial districts of Canterbury and Otago, 2d per lb.; 2s 2d for 141bs. Metropolitan areas of Auckland or Wellington, or within the cities or boroughs of New Plymouth, Wanganui, Napier, Gisborne, Picton, Blenheim, Nelson, Greymouth, Westport or Hokitika, 2.1 d per lb.; 2s 6d for 141bs.
Elsewhere: 21d per lb.; 2s 9d for I'4 lbs.
