VALIANT ACTS OF BRITISH STRETCHER-BEARER. LIFE LOST IN SAVING COMRADES (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 29. The King has approved the poshumous award of the Victoria Cross to Private Eric Anderson, a stretcher-bearer of the -East Yorkshire Regiment (Duke ol Yorks Own). At Wadi Akarit, “bv his valour, complete disregard of personal safety, and courage under fire. Private Anderson probably saved the lives of three comrades.’’ and his "example was an inspiration to all who witnessed his gallant acts." , . „ . . Another message states that Private Anderson was mortally wounded while attempting to bring in a fourth comrade.
