SEA RESCUE OF ALLIED AIRMEN FORCED INTO WATER WHEN RETURNING FROM ATTACKS ON GERMANY. 101 PICKED UP IN FIFTY HOURS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) RUGBY, July 29. In the greatest air-sea rescue operation of the war, 101 British arid American airmen have been rescued in the North Sea within 50 hours and landed at different points in England during the last few days. All had been forced into the water through damage to their aircraft in the heavy day and night raids on Germany. High-speed launches, Walrus Amphibians, lifeboats, trawlers and fishing smacks co-operated in the .search, while airborne lifeboats were dropped. In fifty hours more than 200 aircraft participated in the .search and also guarded the surface craft from possible interference. Most of the rescues were made half-way across the North Sea, some within 60 miles of the European coast.
