LOCAL AND GENERAL

St. John Ambulance Dance. The Masonic Hall, Masterton, was crowded to the doors on Saturday night when the St. John Ambulance Brigade held a dance. The music was supplied by Barnes’s Orchestra and Mr B. J. Seddon was a capable M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss Wallace and Pte Maez of the Marine Corps, and a lucky spot dance was won by Mr G. Deane and Miss McCash. An excellent supper was served by a ladies’ committee. Club Presentation. There was a large attendance of members of the Masterton Golf Club on Saturday afternoon when a presentation was made to Mr S. A Mannering (club captain), who has been transferred to Napier. Mr H P. Hugo, in making the presentation, referred to the excellent work done by Mr Mannering both as a member of the committee and during the past three years as club captain. On behalf of the members he wished both Mr and Mrs Mannering a very happy sojourn in their new home. Mrs A. J. Drew, Dr N. H. Prior and Mr J. Jameson endorsed the remarks made by Mr Hugo. Mr Mannering suitably replied. No Vote for Defaulters. The Electoral Emergency Regulations, which were approved at a meeting of the Executive Council on Saturday, provide'that the name of every person who has been committed to a defaulters’ detention camp, and has not been discharged, and that of every person taken into custody under the Aliens’ Emergency Regulations, 1940, and who has not been released, is to be erased from every electoral roll. Those persons shall not be entitled to be registered as electors, or to have the right to vote. Persons who have been directed into essential industry and wives of members of the forces are not to be deemed to be disqualified from being registered as electors of the district in which they usually reside because of their absence from that district unless they should become registered in another district.
