National Savings.

National savings receipts at the Masterton Post Office yesterday amounted to £69, making the total to date for the week £l7BO. Ministerial Expenses. Ministerial travelling expenses and allowances were questioned by Opposition members during discussion on the Internal Affairs Department vote in the Estimates in the House of Representatives yesterday. The Acting Leader of the Opposition, Mr Polson, said that Ministerial expenses for 194243 were shown at £15,563, compared with £7OOO in 1937. Progress on Estimates. Nine classes of Estimates representing an aggregate vote of £6,719,716 were discussed and approved by the House of Representatives yesterday. The largest individual vote was that of £4,100,000 for the Social Security Department, and items now passed total £12,331,465. The House rose at 5.30 p.m. for the weekend, and consideration of the Estimates will be continued when it resumes on Tuesday afternoon. Interhouse Association Dance. The Wairarapa Interhouse Association held a most successful dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra and extras were played by Miss Marsh. The M’s.C., Messrs J. Bruce and F. Stains, kept proceedings moving with a swing. A special feature was a military two step competition in which a high standard of dancing was set. The judge, Miss B. Hirst, awarded first prize to Miss Nola Benbow and Mr B. McHattie. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss Henson and Sergeant Thompson, of the Marine Corps. Supper was served by the members of Mcduff’s indoor basketball team. The association will hold another dance next Friday.
