WELCOMED AT FEILDING
SOLDIERS BACK FROM MIDDLE EAST.
LIEUTENANT K. ELLIOTT, V.C., AMONG GUESTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, This Day. Lieutenant Keith Elliott, V.C., was one of the guests at Feilding’s civic welcome to returned service men held last night. Lieutenant Elliott is Feilding born and an old boy of the Feilding Agricultural High School. There was a large attendance of citizens. Apologies for absence were received from the Prime Minister and the Hon. J. G. Cobbe. The Mayor. Ml- T. L. Scddon, presided, and was supported by the chairman of the Oroua County Council (Mr A. Campbell), Mr F. J. Allen, president of the R.S.A., and Mr M. Durie, representing the Maori race. The lastnamed, with characteristic eloquence, referred to Lieutenant Elliott as a warrior proved and quoted the motto of the High School: ‘Kia toa kia ngakau'nui,” which he said meant to give your all. Replying in a modest speech, Lieutenant Elliott said Lieutenant Ngarimu, the Maori V.C., had given his all—his life. The speeches generally stressed the responsibility of seeing that all Service men should receive generous help from the Dominion.
