CARTERTON SALE. KEEN COMPETITION FOR DAIRY HEIFERS. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co.. Ltdreport as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday:—A small yarding of sheep and pigs and a large yarding of dairy cows and heifers came forward. An exceptionally nice line of 26 2-year Jersey-Shorthorn cross heifers out of tested dams offered on account of Mr N. J. Snell, of Kahutara, created keen competition and the line averaged £ll 4s. The herd of grade Jersey cows offered on behalf of Messrs W. H. Booth and Son, Middlerun, sold well and averaged £lO 14s. The following are some of the realisations:—■ Sheep: Fat wethers, 29s 6d to 325: prime fat hoggets. 25s 6d. 26s to 28s; fat hoggets, 22s to 235; fat ewes, 20s 3d to 22s 7d; small wether hoggets, to 9s; m.a. ewes. r.w. S.D. rams, to 11s 4d; f.m. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, to 5s 6d. Cattle: Jersey heifers on drop, £lO. £lO 2s 6d to £l2; 26 2-year Jersey-Shorthorn cross heifers, out of tested cows, from £7 to £l5, average, £ll 4s: small 2-year Jersey heifers, springing, £6 10s to £10: 20 Jersey cows, due August and September, from £6 10s to £l6, average £lO 14s: springing Jersey cross cows, £6 to £lO ss; Jersey cows, just calved, to £5 9s; forward cows, £3 10s to £4 16s: store cows, £2 15s to £3 8s; Jersey bull, to £3.
