AYRSHIRE STUD
SALE AT TAUHERENIKAU YESTERDAY. — HIGH PRICES RECORDED. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., report having held the third annual sale of Ardgowan Ayrshire yearling bulls and heifers on the property of Mr James G. Donald. Tauherenikau, yesterday. The sale attracted a large and representative gathering of breeders from all parts of the Dominion. The Ardgowan stud is renowned for the exceptional quality of its cattle, and both the bulls and heifers offered yesterday showed a high standard of type and dairy quality. The herd has been tested continuously since its inception many years ago, and ■ regularly dulled, so that today the standard for production, as well as for type, is exceptionally high. Mr Donald has imported six sires from Scotland and Canada, and a number of females imported from Scotland have also figured in the establishment of the herd. The effect of this has been to place the herd practically on a par with the leading herds in Scotland. Competition was very keen at yesterday’s sale and two bulls made 240 guineas each, one going to Mr S. Wright. Katikati, and the other to Mr G. McC. Wallace. Auckland. The line of young bulls averaged lOOgns. The top price paid for a yearling heifer was GOgns.. paid by Mr C. N. Bartlett. Tangimoana R.D.. Palmerston North, while several made between 40 and
