THEFT OF HANDBAG
MAORI SENT TO GAOL. ONE MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT. Aircraftman Walter Kenneth Hapi, R.N.Z.A.F., was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour when he appeared before Messrs A. D. Low and L. J. Taylor, J’s.P., in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon. Hapi was charged with the theft of a lady’s handbag and contents, of a total value of £3 2s 6d. Detective Sergeant W. Kane said a party was in progress in the front rooms of a house in Essex Street and Hapi entered the back of the house and stole a handbag off a bed. Mr Kane said the class of offence accused had committed was difficult to detect.
